PON (Passive Optical Network)
FTTX, FTTH (Fiber to the Home)
Bare Fiber PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) splitters are optical splitters used in passive optical networks (PONs) to split a single optical signal into multiple output signals without requiring any power input. Unlike other types of splitters, the bare fiber PLC splitter does not come with any connectorized ports or housings. This means that the optical fibers are attached directly to the splitter’s planar waveguide circuit. The bare fiber design of these splitters offers the advantage of lower insertion loss and compact size while ensuring optimal performance. The fiber ends of the splitter are typically fusion spliced to the input and output fibers of the network, making it a highly reliable and stable component. The bare fiber PLC splitters are commonly used in FTTx (fiber-to-the-x) applications such as fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), fiber-to-the-business (FTTB), and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC), as well as in telecommunications, CATV (cable TV), and broadband networks. They can also be used for testing and measurement purposes in optical laboratories.
