Break-out Patch Cords patch cord, also known as a breakout patch cord or fan-out cable, is a type of optical patch cord that is designed to break out into multiple individual fibers at one end, while still having a single connector at the other end.

The fan-out portion of the cable starts as a single cable, typically with a tight buffer or a reinforced jacket, and then branches out into multiple individual fibers, each with its own protective jacket. These individual fibers can be color-coded for easy identification.
